Introducing Susane Kare A Woman In Design That Changed The Digital World!

Susan Kare created icons for the Apple Macintosh team in the early 80s.The goal was to simplify computer use for a wider audience. At the time computers lacked a visual interface and relied on simple yes/no commands. Susan had to develop a solution to communicate with new users through icons - revolutionising computer interfaces.

Design Constraints

Susan Kare designed icons within the constraints of a 32x32 pixel grid, much like arranging 1x1 LEGO blocks on a small base plate. Each "block" or pixel had to be meticulously placed to create recognisable icons with limited space. Her work required creativity to convey meaning and usability within a tiny, monochrome canvas.

Human Centred Design
